Anal itching

What you should know about anal itching

Anal itching is an itching or tingling sensation at or around the sphincter of the bowel, the anus. It is also known as perianal itching or pruritus, and it can affect men, women and children. Itching around or inside the anus can be intense, creating a strong urge to scratch and causing considerable discomfort, irritation and sleepless nights. If the anus itches only in the evening while in bed, there may be an infection with pinworms (worms).
